Kaivalya Plays brings multimedia experience to the world of theatre
By
Neha Kirpal
The group recently staged I, Josef, Franz Kafka’s most well-known character, in an innovative theatre format.
Neha Kirpal speaks to Gaurav Singh Nijjer and Varoon P. Anand of Kaivalya Plays, who recently presented I, Josef, an immersive 45-minute multimedia adaptation of Franz Kafka’s The Trial, using binaural audio and wireless headphones to create a 3D sound experience. Directed by Nijjer, the production explores Kafka’s themes of bureaucratic oppression and personal isolation, making them relevant to modern audiences. The theatre group, known for its innovation, continues to experiment with formats, including blending live performances with audio-visual elements. Future projects include works exploring AI, safety in performing arts, and interactive, technology-driven performances.
